The European Community (EC) is a supranational organization, founded in 1957 under the name European Economic Community (EEC). It forms the first and most important of the three pillars of the European Union (EU). The name European Union has replaced European Community in everyday speech, however EU
remain different terms in legal usage. In so far as Copyright
law is concerned, the EC
has brought about a certain degree of harmonisation with various directives in subordinate areas.
