Euro
The Euro (€) is the currency of the European Monetary Union (EMU) and thus the common official currency in 21 European countries. 15 of these countries belong to the EU. The Euro was introduced on 1 January 1999 as accounting money and was introduced as cash three years later on 1 January 2002. The Euro thus replaced the national currencies as a means of payment.
